Tinley Park Area 2017 Hyundai Azera

Overview

Since 2006, Hyundai has designed the Azera in the North American market as a larger and more luxurious ride than the regular midsize family-oriented sedan. Appearing close to the end of the nameplate's second production cycle, the 2017 Hyundai Azera has no major changes. It is available as a regular trim and a Limited variant.

Interior

As a five-seater, the 2017 Hyundai Azera supplies a passenger volume of 107 cubic feet. The trunk yields 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which can be expanded by folding down the bench-style rear seatback. All the seats are covered with leather and have heating capability. Front seating have additional cooling capability, and it consists of an 8-way power adjustable passenger seat and a 12-way power adjustable driver's seat with an integrated memory system. Also wrapped in leather are the steering wheel and transmission shift knob. Infotainment on the Azera is provided by a 14-speaker 550-watt Infinity Logic 7® system, which comes with AM/FM radio, 8-inch touchscreen navigation with complimentary SiriusXM Travel Link activation, HD Radio, a three-month trial SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, Bluetooth connectivity, and an auxiliary audio jack and USB smartphone port. Also on the new Azera is a one-year complimentary subscription to Blue Link® Connected Care, which comprises a suite of services such as service appointment scheduling, monthly vehicle health reporting, and automated diagnostics. Additional comfort and convenience comes from dual front automatic climate control, steering wheel-mounted controls, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, push-button engine ignition, and a remote garage door opener. The Limited trim gets a few additions, such as a panoramic tilt-and-slide sunroof and smart cruise control.

Exterior

With a shark-fin antenna, chrome insert bodystyle moldings, 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, and a smoother roofline than that of the previous production cycle, the 2017 Azera resembles a high-powered racing vehicle. Projector headlights, which automatically turn on to increase conspicuity, are at the front; they are upgraded to high-intensity discharge xenon lights on the Limited. Below the headlights are a pair of fog lights for cutting through fog when necessary; Hyundai replaces the halogen bulbs on the Limited with longer-lasting LED ones. At the sides are power fold-away heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators. The Azera has proximity key entry to unlock the car, start the engine, or open the trunk with just the press of a button.

Mechanical

The 2017 Azera uses a unibody construction, instead of having pieces fastened to a frame, thus making it remarkably sturdy. SACHS® Amplitude Selective Damping shock absorbers are placed on the front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspensions for ensuring a relatively smooth ride regardless of terrain condition. And the steering-which draws its electric power from a standalone motor, rather than the engine-is not only energy efficient, but also provides the handling and cornering ability.

Powertrain

Powering the 2017 Hyundai Azera is the 3.3-liter Lambda II V6 engine, which has an output of 293 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. It is tied to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which comes with SHIFTRONIC® technology to provide the option of manually upshifting or downshifting. Also included with the gearbox is an Active ECO System for shutting down certain functions in the car to increase fuel efficiency. Using a front-engine front-wheel-drive layout, the Azera achieves a peak fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Added on the Limited is stop/start technology, which further boosts fuel economy by shutting down the engine when the car stops and turns it back on when you remove your foot from the brake.

Safety

For the event of a car crash, the 2017 Azera comes with nine airbags. Two serve as front impact ones, and they directly face the driver and front passenger. A third is placed at the driver's knee, and there are dual side impact airbags installed on the front seats. And each row has dual side impact curtains installed on the roof for head protection. A rearview camera flashes a video image to give you a full view of your rear when in reverse; the Limited gets additional rear parking sensors for further assistance. Electronic vehicle and traction control are combined to keep you in control of the Azera, especially in inclement weather or when encountering unfavorable road conditions. And the all-wheel disc brakes-fortified by anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist-are on board to maximize stopping performance and ability. Blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist are advanced features that are standard on the Azera, and a remote keyless entry system with panic alarm functions as the sedan's security mechanism. Additional features-like smart cruise control, an electronic parking brake, and lane departure warning and forward collision warning systems-are added on the Limited.
