Why Buy the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

For quite a while, the Hyundai Sonata has enjoyed a spot in the top tier of midsize sedans because of its remarkable fuel efficiency, significant amount of interior space, and high level of road performance. The 2018 model year marks a major facelift for the nameplate as it continues its seventh production cycle. There are seven trims available, which are the SE, Eco, SEL, Sport, Limited, Sport 2.0T, and Limited 2.0T.

Exterior - Reasons Why Buy the Sonata

Perhaps in response to the criticism of the seventh-generation model's comparatively conservative exterior design, the 2018 iteration brings back the sharp edges that made the sixth-generation versions beloved among consumers and critics. Standard exterior features include projector headlights with auto light control and dual fold-away heated power side mirrors. On the SEL and higher, the trunk is transformed with hands-free smart opening ability, and turn-signal indicators are added on the side mirrors.

The Limited trim level comes with dynamic bending light technology on the headlights for more accurate lighting, and LEDs replace the halogen bulbs on the headlights and taillights for increased brightness. The Sport trim level and the Limited 2.0T, which emphasize performance, have race-inspired front grilles, front bumpers, chrome rocker panels, and rear diffusers, as well as a chrome-tipped dual exhaust system. The Limited 2.0T is the only one with automatic high beam assist for improving vision when driving in the dark. While most trims ride on 17-inch alloy wheels, the SE and Eco have 16-inch alloy wheels and the 2.0T trims use 18-inch ones.

The standard engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which provides 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. On the Sport and Limited, you can get a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged I4 (thus the "2.0T" suffix). This engine provides an output of 245 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and it is the most powerful of the three engines available. The third engine is exclusive to the Eco, which joins a 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbocharged I4-it provides 178 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque-to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission for maximizing fuel economy. The 2.0T models have an 8-speed automatic gearbox, which was introduced in this model year; the other trims go with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Limited 2.0T is the only trim with start/stop technology for eliminating engine idling. For this model year, the MacPherson strut front and independent multi-link rear suspension is tweaked to improve ride quality, response, and feel. And on the 2.0T-equipped models, it is tuned tight for a sportier, more exciting drive.

Safety - Why Buy with Safety Features

Standard safety features on the sedan include a rearview camera, electronic vehicle stability and traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, daytime running lights (DRLs), an anti-theft system that combines remote keyless entry and a panic alarm, and seven airbags. Blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist are promoted as standard safety features in this model year. Exclusive to the Limited 2.0T are rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. On all trims above the Eco, LEDs replace the halogen bulbs of the DRLs.
